Dragons are referred to as the divine mythical creature that brings with it ultimate abundance, prosperity and good fortune. The Chinese Dragon symbolizes power and excellence, is gallant, bold, heroic and nobel. They excel in perseverance and nobility . A dragon overcomes obstacles until success is hers. She is energetic, decisive, optimistic, intelligent and ambitious.

The mystical Chinese Dragon is often seen as the symbol of divine protection and vigilance. It is regarded as the Supreme Being amongst all creatures. Being the divine mythical animal, the Dragon can ward off wandering evil spirits, protect the innocent and bestow safety to all that hold her emblem. The Chinese Dragon is looked upon as the ultimate symbol of Good Fortune.

They are the angels of the Orient who are loved and worshipped. Temples and shrines have been built to honor them, for they control the rain, rivers, lakes, and seas. You will often see a dragon statue, symbol, or picture in Asian homes and businesses for protection and good fortune.

Those born during Dragon Years enjoy health, wealth, and long life.

Feng Shui Tip – What Can We Look Forward To For The Water Dragon Year?

Master Chinese Astrologer, Dr. Edgar Sung, predicts that, “This year there is a transition from the bad luck of the Metal Rabbit year to the good luck of the Water Dragon year. This year things will be getting better.

The economy will improve, but slowly. People will be mild, more honest and less contentious. The turbulence of the world will calm down.

Basically, it is a good year. However, this Water Dragon year has two springs*, so, prices and the cost of living may be higher.”

Note: *February 4th or 5th is always the first day of Spring in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. In this Dragon year, starting January 23, 2012 and ending February 9, 2013, we have two February 4ths & 5ths, therefore, we have two beginnings of spring.

Rooster, Monkey and Rat – You are in harmony and good friends with the Dragon. Look forward to a good year! Actually, the year will better for everyone, but Rabbits & Dogs Beware. If you were born in the year of the Rabbit or Dog, this year will be a challenging year for you.

The Classic Chinese Almanac Tells Us:

Rabbits, be especially careful with your health this year. Nip minor illnesses in the bud so they do not escalate into more serious conditions. This can be an emotional year for you as Dragons and Rabbits are adversaries. The Chinese saying is that, “There are many tears between Rabbit & Dragon.”

Dogs, be careful. You clash with the Dragon. For those inclined to follow tradition, pay homage to the Dragon in your home to stay in Dragon’s good  graces.

Others may excessively gossip about you, but just ignore them. Getting angry or retaliating will only waste energy. Also, keep spending in check. Handle legal issues with caution to avoid lawsuits.Be careful with your nutrition this year, for you are especially vulnerable to food poisoning.

To help overcome the difficulties of the year, do many good deeds to increase your luck and benefactors will come to your aid.

Ever Wonder How Color Effects You?

Dark Ceilings – Good or Bad?

Color can dramatically effect the Qi and mood of a room. It’s one of the most economical ways to shift an environment’s energy and can create a positive change for occupants.

I recently visited a business that is well designed and appointed. The only change I would make is the ceiling color. The walls are of standard height and painted a light color, but the ceiling is  black. Oh
my! I felt like I was in a cave. This dark ceiling pushes the Qi down  creating a sense of oppression and made the space feel closed in. Even though I enjoyed being with the people there, by the time I left I could not wait to get out into the fresh air. People working in this type of environment will become moody and may be prone to headaches because of the way the ceiling is ”pressing down”.

Darker ceilings can be effective if you have really high light colored walls and want to make a room feel more cozy. Then, by all means choose a shade a bit darker than the wall color.

Feng Shui Tip – Selecting Color

The template to the left illustrates the productive and overcoming order of the five elements. The five elements are a representation of different energies in nature. Note that each element is associated with a color. This is a useful chart to apply when selecting color for your painting project. For example, if you wish to lift the energy in a room, a soft green would be a good choice. It represents Springs’ rising Qi of renewed growth and new beginnings, yet, it has a soothing effect.

The black arrows indicate the production order of the elements. In progression, each element supports the next. Wood element, for instance, feeds fire element (movement), which  just may be what you want to get things moving in you life!

The pink arrows show what element to use to overcome another. The soft green I mentioned would be a good way to energetically move stagnant earth Qi.

If, for example, you feel unmotivated, you probably have too much earth Qi. One way to loosen it would be to introduce wood element in your surroundings.

Selecting Color is a challenge for many people. I helped clients select the color for this living room. The gentle lavender cools down the heat of the sun beating through the large windows creating a comfortable and soothing place to relax and entertain. So, if you are thinking of starting a painting project, please let me know and we can sit down and pick the colors that will support you the most!

This class consists of an exploration of the Cosmology, Five Elements, the tangible part of analyzing feng shui from the perspective of Black Sect Tantric Buddhism Feng Shui and its’ applications for home, business, and personal growth.

Cultivating auspicious Qi and eliminating harmful influences through Interior & Exterior Qi Adjustments including space clearing are essential. These methods of site analysis and the different factors affecting feng shui are discussed in depth.

The internal and external factors have a profound influence on our lives. Some internal factors such as floor plan layout, location of doors, stairs and furnishings, other Influential external factors are building and lot shapes, landscape, street layouts and others.

Melissa Chee’s Bio –As an engineer and a healer, Melissa Chee has found a peaceful path in life.  Five years ago, she went through a major difficult shift in her life involving a start-up business and started questioning, “How did this happen?  What did I do to deserve this?  What am I here to accomplish in this lifetime?  There has to be more to life than this.”

Chasing The Winter Blahs Away!

Did you know that you can place the Ba Gua on an entire  site, just one section or have several Ba Gua’s in one yard?

FENG SHUI TIP – A common question that clients and students ask in planning a Feng Shui garden is, “How do I place the Ba Gua?” Good question.

Let’s say you want to use Feng Shui for your back yard. First determine the main entrance to area of your property. Do you enter from the back of your home, or, is a gate the main entrance? Once you determine this, place the Ba Gua the same way you would place it on your house. To see what I’m referring to click HERE and you will view a basic Ba Gua to use as your garden map.

Now, let’s say you want to enhance your wealth area. That is called Hsun and is located in the back left corner of the Ba Gua. If the orientation of the Ba Gua for the whole property is different from the orientation of the Ba Gua for the back yard, then you have two wealth areas in your back yard. Colors to use in the Hsun/Wealth area are green and purple. A water feature is also good.

Chinese New Year Traditions include cleaning the house before New Year’s day and celebrating the New Year with friends and family.  That includes lots of food, laughing and playing. Include all generations in the festivities. On New Year’s Day wear something new and do not eat meat for that would offend the Immortals!

The Golden Cicada Ritual is done the day before the New Year. This year that will be Saturday, February 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. I am hosting a Golden Cicada Ritual at my office and invite you to join me. This is an excellent way to start the new year in a lively and fun event. Together we will usher in the Year of the Metal Tiger with this traditional Chinese ritual that is symbolic of rebirth.
